The story of the “Fruta do Misterio”
We previously knew that they came from Hawaii to Brazil at some point and yesterday I learned the entire story from Marco (E-jardim - one of the three authors of the book Frutas do Brasil), which we would like to tell you here.
At the beginning of 2000, Vladimir Rosenfeld found this strange fruit in Kauai (the fourth largest island in Hawaii) and brought some seeds with him to Brazil - as a gift for Marco.
He then sowed it and it grew into a small, beautiful tree that started producing fruit just a year later.
So it was only a matter of time that Marco's friends and acquaintances in Brazil also received these seeds and the Fruta do Misterio spread.
In 2022, Nat Bletter found her again on the island of Oahu (the capital there is Honolulu) and it can be said that many fruit freaks in Hawaii still don't know her or have ever seen her.
One doesn't know exactly whether Syzygium or Eugenia. There are features of both.
Syzygium is a genus of the "old epoch", while the genus Eugenia emerged later.
It is believed that it could be a form in between - i.e. the transition from Syzygium to Eugenia.
The fruits themselves are relatively small, sweet, juicy, without acid and with little pulp. But they are undeniably beautiful and a great snack.
Please overwinter at at least 10 degrees.
This plant grows a little slowly in the first year and much faster from the second year onwards.
You can expect flowers from the second year onwards. This plant blooms and produces fruit all year round without ceasing!

Wir wussten bisher, dass sie irgendwann einmal von Hawaii nach Brasilien gekommen sind und gestern erfuhr ich von Marco (E-jardim - einem der drei Autoren des Buches Frutas do Brasil) die gesamte Geschichte, die wir euch hier gern weiter erzählen möchten.
Anfang 2000 fand Vladimir Rosenfeld diese seltsame Frucht in Kauai (der viertgrößten Insel Hawaiis) und brachte ein paar Samen davon mit nach Brasilien - als Geschenk für Marco.
Er hat sie dann gesät und daraus entwickelte sich dann eine kleiner, schöner Baum, der bereits ein Jahr später Früchte ansetzte.
So war es nur eine Frage der Zeit, dass Freunde und Bekannte von Marco in Brasilien ebenfalls diese Samen bekamen und die Fruta do Misterio sich verbreitete.
2022 fand sie Nat Bletter wieder auf der Insel Oahu (Hauptstadt dort ist Honolulu) und man kann sagen, dass viele Fruchtfreaks von Hawaii sie bis heute noch nicht kennen oder je gesehen haben.
Man weiß nicht genau ob Syzygium oder Eugenia. Von beiden sind Merkmale vorhanden.
Syzygium ist eine Gattung der "alten Epoche - Zeit, während die Gattung Eugenia erst später entstanden ist.
So glaubt man es könnte eine Form dazwischen sein - also der Übergang von Syzygium zu Eugenia.
Die Früchte selbst sind relative klein, süß, saftig, ohne Säure und mit wenig Fruchtfleisch. Aber sie sind unbestritten wunderschön und ein toller Snack.
