Juã-Açu (Solanum oocarpum)
In 2008, the collector Helton Muniz was on the “Projeto Colecionando Frutas” (fruit collection project) in the forest of Angatuba (São Paulo) and discovered this species.
Since then he has managed to cultivate this rare species and the first seeds reached Europe a few years ago.
The Juã-Açu (Solanum oocarpum) is simply amazing in terms of taste. Very exotic.
I could taste kiwi, apricot, achachairu, orange, passion fruit.
You wouldn't believe how "fat" the taste of a "Solanum" can be. That blows my mind every time.
These Juã-Açu seeds are also interesting for people who already own this fruit plant.
You then have another plant to cross-pollinate (which is often an advantage).
By the way, they won't bloom in the first year for us in Germany, but rather in the second or third year.
They then bear fruit for at least 6 years.
Please overwinter at at least 10 degrees (even if it can withstand -3 for a short time).

Im Jahr 2008 war Helton beim „Projeto Colecionando Frutas“ (Fruchtsammelprojekt) im Wald von Angatuba (São Paulo) unterwegs und hat diese Art entdeckt.
Seit dieser Zeit ist es ihm gelungen diese seltene Art anzubauen und so sind vor ein paar Jahren die ersten Samen nach Europa gelangt.
Die Juã-Açu (Solanum oocarpum) ist geschmacklich einfach nur der Hammer. Sehr exotisch.
Ich konnte Kiwi, Aprikose, Achachairu, Orange, Maracuja herausschmecken.
Man glaubt gar nicht wie "fett" der Geschmack einer "Solanum" sein kann.
Das haut mich jedes mal wieder aus den Pantoffeln.
Diese Juã-Açu Samen sind auch für die Leute interessant, die bereits diese Fruchtpflanze besitzen.
Sie haben dann nämlich eine weitere Pflanze zur Kreuzbestäubung (was oft von Vorteil ist).
Übrigens werden sie bei uns nicht im ersten Jahr blühen sondern eher Richtung 2 oder 3 Jahre.
Danach tragen sie mindestens noch 6 Jahre lang Früchte.
Überwintern bitte bei mindestens 10 Grad (auch wenn sie kurz -3 aushält).
