I'm usually wary of fruits that look like this.
It's too easy to mix things up and there are also poisonous fruits.
But what you see here is a very special Solanum!
Solanum alternatopinnatum (the Brazilian calls it Juquirioba)
This Solanum tastes completely like passion fruit / passion fruit
It is a climbing plant with curved thorns and Helton Muniz describes his find as follows:
“In 2010 we became entangled in the tendrils of this previously unknown Solanum in the forest and brought it into our collection.
We didn't know at the time whether it was edible or not. Unfortunately, in 2011 we only found green, dried fruits on the plant.
But in 2012 we were lucky and found yellow-white and orange-white fruits.
In the meantime, this Solanum was identified and we spooned the tasty pulp out of the hard shell.
The entire contents were delicious and tasted exactly like passion fruit.”
This fast-growing plant can be grown on a trellis and in Brazil it blooms after the first or second year.
Although self-fertile, having two or more plants can always be beneficial.
This Solanum can withstand -3 degrees for a short time and the fruits grow to a maximum size of 4.5cm.
Please overwinter at at least 10 degrees.
Normalerweise bin ich bei Früchten, die so aussehen, vorsichtig.
Zu schnell könnte man etwas verwechseln und es gibt auch giftige Früchte.
Doch was ihr hier seht ist eine ganz besondere Solanum!

Diese Solanum schmeckt komplett nach Passionsfrucht / Maracuja
Es ist eine Kletterpflanze mit gekrümmten Dornen und Helton Muniz beschreibt seinen Fund folgendermaßen:
„im Jahr 2010 verfingen wir uns im Wald in den Ranken dieser bisher unbekannten Solanum und brachten sie mit in unsere Sammlung.
Wir wussten damals nicht ob sie essbar ist oder nicht. Im Jahr 2011 fanden wir an der Pflanze leider nur grüne vertrocknete Früchte.
Doch im Jahr 2012 hatten wir das Glück und haben gelb-weiße und orange-weiße Früchte gefunden.
Mittlerweile war diese Solanum auch identifiziert und wir löffelten das schmackhafte Fruchtfleisch aus der harten Schale.
Der gesamte Inhalt war köstlich und hat exakt wie Passionsfrucht geschmeckt.“
Man kann diese schnellwachsende Pflanze an einem Spalier ziehen und in Brasilien blüht sie bereits nach dem ersten oder zweiten Jahr.
Obwohl sie selbstfruchtend ist, kann es immer von Vorteil sein, zwei oder mehrere Pflanzen zu haben.
Diese Solanum hält kurzfristig -3 Grad aus und die Früchte werden maximal 4,5cm groß.
Bitte bei mindestens 10 Grad überwintern.
