Prainea limpato "Kesusu" – The Legendary Fruit of Borneo
Hidden deep within the mystical rainforests of Borneo grows a fruit that has long been revered as a myth among collectors: the Kesusu – Prainea limpato.
For many years, this rare treasure seemed beyond reach.
Only recently have the first fruits been successfully harvested outside of Borneo, notably in Hawaii, and the legend has proven true:
Kesusu is indeed one of the finest fruits in the world.
Closely related to the fig and jackfruit, the Kesusu belongs to the Moraceae family and is endemic to Borneo. Its vibrant fruits are composed of multiple edible segments — each a small, sweet indulgence.
The flavor is simply enchanting: rich and sweet like caramelized sugar, with deep notes of butterscotch — a taste that feels almost otherworldly.
In cultivation, Kesusu requires conditions similar to those of cacao: warm, humid, and shaded during the first year of growth.
As it matures, the plant becomes more resilient but remains a true child of the tropics.

Erst in jüngster Zeit gelang es, erste Pflanzen außerhalb ihrer Heimat zu kultivieren, und auf Hawaii wurden die ersten Früchte geerntet.
Was man zuvor nur in Geschichten hörte, wurde bestätigt: Kesusu zählt zu den besten Früchten der Welt.
Wie die Feige und die Jackfrucht gehört auch die Kesusu zur Familie der Moraceae und ist endemisch auf Borneo.
Ihre leuchtenden Früchte sind in Segmente aufgeteilt, die einzeln verzehrt werden können – ein kleines Fest für alle Sinne.
Das Fruchtfleisch begeistert mit einem unvergleichlichen Aroma:
süß wie karamellisierter Zucker, durchzogen von Noten von Butterscotch – ein Geschmack, der wie aus einer anderen Welt scheint.
In der Kultur benötigt die Kesusu ähnliche Bedingungen wie der Kakao: warm, feucht und schattig im ersten Jahr, um kräftig zu wachsen.
Mit zunehmender Reife wird die Pflanze robuster, bleibt aber ein wahres Tropenkind.
