This Solanum comes from the forested mountains of eastern Brazil.
It is a small tree up to 2m high that starts to bloom after two years and then bears a lot of fruit for a few years.
From around the eighth year he begins to die.
The fruits are fantastic - the name says it all: like a mix of guava with tamarillo.
This name was given to the fruit in New Zealand when they tried to grow this Solanum commercially.
This plant is a shallow rooter and requires wider pots.
This Solanum is very resistant to diseases and can withstand temperatures down to -3 degrees for short periods of time.
It feels most comfortable in a temperature range between 15 and 25 degrees.
This Solanum could easily be cross-pollinated with pollen from the Cold hardy Tamarillo (Solanum corymbiflorum) to breed it even more cold-hardy.
Two plants of this Solanum are also recommended to get fruit faster.
This Solanum is classified as “Near Threatened” on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species and is no longer commonly found in Brazil.

Diese Solanum stammt aus den bewaldeten Bergen Ostbrasiliens.
Es wird ein kleiner bis 2m hoher Baum der nach zwei Jahren mit blühen beginnt und dann ein paar wenige Jahre viele Früchte trägt.
Ab dem ungefähr achten Jahr beginnt er zu sterben.
Die Früchte sind fantastisch - der Name sagt es bereits: wie eine Mischung aus Guave mit Tamarillo.
Diesen Namen hat man den Früchten in Neuseeland gegeben als man versuchte diese Solanum kommerziell anzubauen.
Diese Pflanze ist ein Flachwurzler und benötigt eher breitere Töpfe.
Diese Solanum ist sehr resistent gegen Krankheiten und hält kurzfristig Temperaturen bis -3 Grad aus.
Sie fühlt sich in einem Temperaturbereich zwischen 15 und 25 Grad am wohlsten.
Man konnte diese Solanum gut mit Pollen der Cold hardy Tamarillo (Solanum corymbiflorum) kreuzbestäuben um sie noch kältehärter zu züchten.
Es werden auch zwei Pflanzen dieser Solanum empfohlen um schneller Früchte zu bekommen.
Diese Solanum wird in der Roten Liste gefährdeter Arten der IUCN als „nahezu gefährdet“ eingestuft und ist nicht mehr häufig in Brasilien zu finden.
Überwintern bitte bei mindestens 5 Grad.
